Camping With Kids? Use This Checklist!

CampingJune is a great month to spend even more time outside and embrace the great outdoors. From parks and trails to fishing and swimming—there’s something for everyone.

Camping is a great way to explore all those things, and more! Whether you grew up camping or your family is new to the idea of sleeping outside, it’s important to bring along the right gear to maximize your comfort, fun, and safety.

Here’s a quick checklist to ensure you have all the basics covered so you can be more confident about navigating the adventure!

Health and safety:

  • Lanterns, flashlights, and headlamps
  • First aid kit
  • Sunscreen
  • Bug spray
  • Travel size toiletries
  • Toilet paper
  • Toddler potty or another portable potty (optional)
  • Hand wipes and hand sanitizer

Gear and clothing:

  • Tent
  • Foldable camp chairs
  • Sleeping bags
  • Sleeping pads and pillows
  • Extra blankets
  • Towels
  • Warm clothing
  • Pajamas
  • Rain jacket, boots
  • Swimsuit, sunhat
  • Hiking boots or sneakers with good traction for exploring
  • Slip-on shoes for the campsite

Don’t forget to pack an ample amount of food, snacks, and water to keep your family energized during the trip! Here are a few on-the-go snack ideas to get you started.

On the way there, think of simple nature scavenger hunt ideas to keep little ones safely occupied within the boundaries of your site while you set up camp. Let them help too, they’ll love having a task.

Before coming home, remember to do your part to Leave No Trace and make sure you leave your campsite better than you found it.
