Try Tandoori Spiced Chicken

Tandoori Spiced Chicken
Most modern kitchens aren’t exactly equipped with a traditional tandoor oven, but some of the flavors that originated in the circular clay ovens are worth replicating. Tandoori spiced chicken is one of them. It’s one of the most popular dishes in Indian cuisine and you can make it at home! The key is in the simple yogurt-based marinade created with a spice mixture that gives the chicken its signature taste.

Most of the things you’ll need are staples in your pantry or come standard with a common spice rack. The turmeric will give your marinade a vibrant pop of yellow and provides some impressive health benefits too, such as inflammation relief and brain health. Gather what you need below to get started.

1 ¼ lb. chicken, cubed

½ Tbsp. garlic powder

½ Tbsp. ginger powder

2 tsp. coriander

1 tsp. turmeric

1 tsp. sweet paprika

1 tsp. cinnamon

1 tsp. nutmeg

1-2 cups plain yogurt

1 Tbsp. lemon juice

1 tsp. vegetable oil

To create the marinade, combine all the spices together. Next, blend it into the yogurt and add the lemon juice. Stir your raw, cubed chicken into the marinade and let it sit in the fridge for 1-3 hours.

When you’re ready for dinner, preheat the oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit. If you’re using a convection oven, drop the temperature down to 375 degrees.

Coat the bottom of a large baking dish with vegetable oil.

Use tongs or another utensil to add the chicken to the pan without dumping in the excess marinade.

Bake it for 15 to 20 minutes (or until the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees for 15 seconds).

This recipe serves 4 to 6 people and pairs wonderfully with brown rice, traditional naan, or pita bread. Give our Tandoori Spiced Chicken a try and let us know what you think! #GrowFitAtHome
