U-GRO Learning Centres Recognizes Our Teachers

For more than 40 years, U-GRO Learning Centres has been committed to hiring the most passionate teachers in Central PA! They are the reason that 96.8 percent of our students meet or exceed kindergarten readiness standards. While we appreciate all that our teachers do every day of the year, we especially want to recognize them during May, which is National Teacher Appreciation month.

To celebrate, we asked some of our early childhood educators what they love about their careers and working with their students!

Why do you love being an early childhood educator?

“I love being an educator because I love seeing children being able to succeed in life. I love helping them meet their goals and seeing their faces light up when they do.” – Ms. Angie, Turtles Classroom (younger 2-year-olds) at Brethren Village

“I am a life-long learner. I discover something new each and every day through the children and families that make up our U-GRO community.” – Ms. Kathy, Bunnies Classroom (infant 6 weeks-12 months) at HACC Harrisburg

“I love being an early childhood educator because it is so rewarding. I get to watch my little ones emerge from babyhood and become a toddler with a big personality. I love to see them learn and give every activity they do 100%. I like being apart of a child’s life even if it’s only for awhile.” – Ms. Margie, Bears Classroom (12-18 months) at Hempfield

What is your favorite activity to do with your students?

“My favorite thing to do with my students is science experiments. My favorite experiment is the Egg in Vinegar experiment because each group I have had has thought of new ways to extend it, and I get to learn new things right along with them!” – Ms. Brianna, Caterpillars Classroom (3-year-olds) at Union Deposit

“I enjoy together time. The children’s reactions are rewarding when they recognize a song. They get so excited to make the sounds or so movements.” – Ms. Rose, Bears Classroom (12-18 months) at TecPort

“My favorite thing to do with my students is acting out our weekly book! Right now the Caterpillars are in the middle of a farm project. We recently had parents come in to see the children act out the book, Mrs. Wishy Washy’s Farm.” – Ms. Kathy, Caterpillars Classroom (3-year-olds) at Messiah Lifeways

“My favorite activity to do with my children is sensory activities. I love to see their expression when they experience new smells or textures.” – Ms. Mildred, Lambs Classroom (infant 6 weeks-12 months) at York

What advice do you have for other early childhood educators?

“Take pride in your profession and give the children in your care the very best of you. Remember that you spend a very large part of their day with them and have a great influence upon them. They will teach you as much as you teach them. Listen to what they have to say.” – Miss Cindy, Monkeys Classroom (Pre-K) at Hershey

“You need to be positive, reliable, have patience, and be flexible. You also should be loving and nurturing.” – Ms. Dawn, Assistant Director at Lebanon

“My advice for other early childhood education teachers is to always be positive and flexible because you never know what each day will hold. If you greet each day with the mindset that it will be a great day no matter what, then your day might be crazy, but at least you will enjoy it!” – Ms. Renee, Bears Classroom (12-18 months) at Bent Creek
