3 Snow Day Safety Tips

Snow days are typically one of the more joyous days in a child’s life. With no school to think about and plenty of fresh snow to play in, safety is the furthest thing from their minds, but it should be at the forefront of yours. To keep your snow days happy, here are three simple safety tips you can follow:

  1. Make sure there are breaks: Because it’s cold outside, children aren’t thinking so much about how much they’re sweating or dehydration. Help them stay healthy by calling them in for a water and snack break every so often.
  2. Dress them in layers: Layering is important to keep your child warm, but you don’t want them to overheat. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends adding one more layer to a child’s snow day outfit than an adult would wear in the same conditions.
  3. Don’t forget about sunscreen: Children are still susceptible to sun damage even in the middle of winter, and with the snow reflecting 80 percent of UV rays, protection is even more important.
