1. Play School/Office: Help your child set up a pretend school or office with a disconnected phone, pens & paper, computer keyboard and other supplies!
2. Salon: Play salon and give eachother manicures and pedicures. Let your child style your hair!
3. Discover Forgotten Toys: Spend some together-time by cleaning out the toy box! If they’re forgotten, it’s almost like getting new toys!
4. Picnic Indoors: Pass the indoor-time by having an indoor picnic complete with a blanket on the floor, a packed picnic basket, the works! You can even pretend ants are crawling on your food like they might be if you were outdoors!

At the U-GRO Learning Centres in York, director, Dee Dee Sekeres asked the families to send postcards from their family vacations.  The children enjoy viewing the map to see all the fun places their friends have visited this summer!

Children at the new Messiah Village U-GRO, an intergenerational child daycare and preschool center in Mechanicsburg, PA – explored a community garden with Mr. Jim.  He is a resident of Messiah Village Reitrement Community, and maintains his own plot of land in the community garden on the property.  Several other residents maintain other plots of land in the garden and grow whatever they choose; from fresh produce to flowers and other plants.

On the walk over, the children talked about what they might see, from tomatoes, to red beets.  One child thought she might see macaroni and cheese! When they arrived, Mr. Jim welcomed them in and helped the children harvest some vegetables, smell the flowers and dill, touch the leaves to feel the different textures, and some children even taste-tested the fresh, organic green beans! Along with the green beans, they saw flowers, green peppers, tomatoes, beets, corn, and watermellon! What a fun way to explore where our food comes from! Check out the photos below:

At Hempfield U-GRO, a child daycare and preschool center in Lancaster, founder, Janice Holsinger discusses the rain forest with children during one of their Splash Days.  She allowed the children to explore bugs that can be found in the rainforest along with jewelry that was made from turtle shells. A fun way to make the best of the hot, muggy weather!

This summer, the Union Deposit U-GRO in Harrisburg has planted and grown a garden!  Here, director, Andrea Wetherbee is tending to their garden of cucumbers, carrots, broccoli, bell peppers, and tomatoes.

They also grow corn, pole beans, zucchini, watermelon, and pumpkins which they carve in the fall.  When the time comes, the children will harvest the garden and Miss Rosie makes a vegetable medley!
